CNU Graduates Publish Children’s Book Introducing Neuroscience to Young Learners Christopher Newport University reports that recent graduates Amber Baldwin and Kaitlyn Kinslow have published a children’s book titled “Building Young Brains: An Introduction to the World of Neuroscience.” The colorful guide introduces elementary school students to foundational neuroscience concepts, brain function, and career opportunities in the field. Both neuroscience majors received funding through CNU’s Honors Program and Office of Research and Creative Activity to develop the book. Baldwin created the illustrations while both students contributed to the writing, designing the content to be accessible and engaging for young readers. The duo discovered a significant gap in neuroscience education within Virginia’s K-12 curriculum and sought to fill that void with accurate yet simple explanations of how the brain works. The book has received positive feedback from educators, children, and families. Kinslow will pursue her doctorate at Medical College of Wisconsin while Baldwin will attend Medical University of South Carolina. Both hope their book will inspire young students to develop an interest in science and neuroscience.
