Literacy for Life Seeks Volunteer Tutors in Newport News
Organization offers training and support for those ready to teach reading skills

Literacy for Life is calling on community members to volunteer as tutors to help adults strengthen the skills needed to thrive in life and work. Tutors play a vital role in helping learners achieve life-changing goals such as learning to read, earning a GED, applying for U.S. citizenship, improving computer skills, and more.
No prior teaching experience or foreign language skills are required. Volunteers simply bring patience, positivity, and commitment, while Literacy for Life provides training, resources, and ongoing support.
Community members interested in becoming involved are encouraged to attend a 45-minute orientation session to learn about the organization’s mission, services, and volunteer opportunities, including an overview of tutor training. Orientations are offered in Williamsburg, Newport News, and online. Upcoming sessions include:
Oct. 1 (Wed), 5:30 p.m. – Online via Zoom
