USS Doris Miller Aircraft Carrier Pushed Back Two Years to 2034
Navy Times reported that the U.S. Navy’s fourth Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier will arrive two years later than originally planned. The USS Doris Miller is now scheduled for delivery in February 2034 instead of February 2032, marking a significant delay in the carrier program.
The postponement stems from limited construction space at Huntington Ingalls Industries Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia, where the carrier is being built. The primary cause of the delay involves constraints tied to construction of the third Ford-class carrier, USS Enterprise. The Enterprise currently occupies the shipyard’s final assembly area, the only space accessible by heavy-lift crane necessary for large assembly work. Equipment delays for the Enterprise pushed its own delivery timeline from July 2030 to March 2031, further compressing available construction capacity for subsequent vessels in the class. https://www.navytimes.com/news/your-navy/2026/05/15/future-aircraft-carrier-doris-miller-delayed-until-2034/
