BayPort Credit Union Opens First Richmond Branch
Plus, City of Newport News Hosts Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony; Newport News’ New Huntington Park Botanical Garden

BayPort Credit Union expanded its footprint into the greater Richmond market with the grand opening of its first branch in Highland Springs, located at 109 E Nine Mile Road, according to a recent press release. The celebration included a ribbon-cutting ceremony in partnership with ChamberRVA, drawing community leaders and local officials including Varina District Supervisor Tyrone Nelson and representatives from Henrico County Public Schools, Henrico Economic Development Authority, and the Virginia Department of the Treasury.
The expansion reflects BayPort’s broader growth strategy following its transition to a federal charter, which unlocks new opportunities to serve individuals, businesses, and communities across Virginia and online banking members nationwide. BayPort purchased and renovated the former Credit Union Service Center building, adding mortgage and investment support offices alongside the new branch. The location also maintains CO-OP Shared Branch network services.
The new branch immediately serves more than 500 existing local members while positioning BayPort to welcome new members in the Richmond community. Founded in 1928 by Newport News Shipbuilding workers, BayPort now holds $2.7 billion in assets and serves more than 156,000 members across 31 Virginia branches.
